Chum Phae
Khon Kaen, Thailand
About Chum Phae
Chum Phae is a district town in western Khon Kaen province, serving as a commercial and transport gateway between the Isaan region and the neighbouring provinces of Chaiyaphum and Loei. The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with Dvaravati-period ruins at Non Mueang testifying to its early significance. Established as a district in 1943, Chum Phae has since grown into a busy market centre with a population of over 120,000.
The town sits at the junction of major roads linking Khon Kaen to Chaiyaphum and Loei, making it a natural stop for travellers heading into the mountains. The climate follows the tropical savanna pattern, with a cool season from November to February offering the most pleasant conditions for visiting.
