Pathio
Chumphon, Thailand
About Pathio
Pathio (ปะทิว) is a coastal district in northern Chumphon Province, bordering the Gulf of Thailand. It is best known as the location of Chumphon Airport (CJM IATA) and for its beautiful, unspoiled beaches — particularly Ao Bo Mao (Spring Tree Bay) and Ao Thung Makham. The district covers 596 km² and is home to about 44,000 people, living in seven sub-districts from Bang Son in the north to Khao Chai Rat in the south.
The Pathio coastline features long white sand beaches backed by casuarina trees, with clear shallow water and views of the Gulf islands. The area has dedicated red bicycle lanes along the coastal road, making it a popular cycling destination. The interior is marked by limestone caves and rock formations from the Mesozoic era. Pathio is far less developed than Thailand's major beach destinations — there are no big resorts or nightlife, just a quiet, natural coastline. The best time to visit is the dry season from November to April.
