Why visit Wiang Pa Pao?

Wiang Pa Pao (เวียงป่าเป้า) is the south-westernmost district of Chiang Rai Province, located in the Khun Tan Range. The district covers 1,217 km² with a population of around 68,000. It is a mountainous agricultural area bordering Lampang and Chiang Mai provinces. The Khun Tan Range runs along the west side of the district, and its highest point, 2,031 m Doi Mae Tho (also known as Doi Lang Ka), is at its south-west end within Khun Chae National Park.

The climate is cooler than the lowlands due to elevation, with the cool season (Nov–Feb) being the most pleasant for visiting. The rainy season runs June–October.
