About Bamnet Narong
Bamnet Narong is a district in the south-west of Chaiyaphum Province, in Thailand's Isaan region. Its history stretches back to the Rattanakosin period, when the area was a frontier town called Dan Chuan. During the reign of King Rama II, a soldier from Mueang Khukhan was appointed its headman. In 1826, when King Anouvong of Lan Xang marched his troops into Siam, the headman of Dan Chuan led his forces in battle against the Laotian army near Nakhon Ratchasima. For his bravery, King Rama III promoted him to Phra Ritthi Rue Chai and upgraded Dan Chuan to Mueang Bamnet Narong under Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima. It was later downgraded to a district of Chaiyaphum Province in the administrative reforms of 1897 and became a full district in 1956.
The district economy includes agriculture and a potash mine, which has attracted plans for a coal-fired power plant by EGAT, though these have faced opposition from anti-coal activists. The area is predominantly rural, with seven sub-districts and 88 villages spread across 560 km².
The climate follows the Isaan pattern: a cool season (November–February), hot season (March–May), and rainy season (June–October). The district seat is at Ban Chuan.
