Mugumu is a small town on the eastern edge of Serengeti National Park in Mara Region, serving as the main gateway for visitors accessing the northern Serengeti and the Mara River crossing area. During the migration season (July–October), Mugumu is busy with safari vehicles and tour operators. The town has basic services: fuel stations, shops, and a police post.

Mugumu is 130 km southeast of Musoma on a dirt road (2.5–3 hours, 4WD recommended in the rains). Regular buses from Musoma. The Kogatende Gate into the Serengeti is 10 km south.
