The city lies at the foot of the first mountain range of the Jura Mountains area, guarding the only practical connection to Jura in the area, and on the northeastern shores of Lake Biel (Bielersee, Lac de Bienne), sharing the eastern tip of the lake with its sister city, Nidau.

Ask on WhatsAppFood & Dining
Biel offers a range of dining options from traditional tapas bars to formal restaurants. Local specialities often feature fresh, seasonal ingredients. Look for the menú del día (set lunch menu) for the best value — typically €10–15 including starter, main, dessert, and drink. Many bars offer free tapas with drinks, especially in certain regions. Vegetarian and vegan options are increasingly available, though traditional Spanish cuisine is meat and seafood-heavy.
Cafes & Nightlife
Aragón has a growing wine scene, particularly from the Cariñena, Somontano, and Calatayud DO regions. The local reds from Garnacha grapes are especially noteworthy. The region also produces excellent olive oil. Try the local zurracapote (a sangría-like drink made with red wine and fruit). Tap water is safe to drink.
