Overview

Sool is a region in northern Somalia, contested between Somaliland and Puntland administrations. The landscape is arid and semi-desert, with the Nugaal Valley forming an important geographical feature along its southern boundary. The region is sparsely populated, with pastoralist communities forming the majority of inhabitants.

The administrative capital, Laascaanood, has been a focal point of territorial disputes. The region's contested status significantly affects travel and security conditions. Traditional Somali clan structures and pastoralist culture define daily life.
