Luuq

Gedo, Somalia

Why visit Luuq?

Luuq is a historic city in the Gedo region of southern Somalia. The town sits in a dramatic horseshoe bend of the Jubba River, which encloses the city on both sides. Only about 100 metres separate the riverbanks at the city's entrance gate. Luuq was established in medieval times and has long been an important trading centre on the Jubba River. The city has a hot desert climate with average high temperatures exceeding 40°C in March, the hottest month. The sky is almost always clear year-round.
