Niupani is a village on the northern shore of Lake Tegano on Rennell Island, Rennell and Bellona Province, Solomon Islands. The village sits at the edge of the vast brackish lake, the largest enclosed water body in the Pacific. Niupani is part of the East Rennell UNESCO World Heritage area, recognised for its unique biodiversity including endemic bird species, the endangered Rennell flying fox, and the lake's diverse marine life. The traditional lifestyle centres on fishing in Lake Tegano and gardening on the fertile surrounding slopes. The climate is tropical and humid, with higher rainfall from November to March.

How do you get there?

By Plane

The nearest airport is Tigoa Airport (IATA: RNN) on Rennell Island, with Solomon Airlines flights from Honiara. From Tigoa, Niupani is about 10 km east along the lake shore — reachable by truck or boat.

By Car / Road

A rough track runs from Tigoa east along the northern shore of Lake Tegano to Niupani. Trucks make the journey in about 30 minutes. The road can be impassable after heavy rain.

Niupani is a small village and is walkable. Boats on Lake Tegano provide the most practical way of exploring the lake's shoreline.
