The island is 20 km long with a summit elevation of 150 m, and is covered with coconut plantations and dense jungle. The narrow Nagosele Passage, in places less than 70 m wide, separates Rob Roy Island from Choiseul Island and experiences strong tidal currents. The island is largely uninhabited except for small plantation settlements. The climate is tropical and humid throughout the year.
