Pendembu

Pendembu is a small town in Eastern Province, Sierra Leone, located near the Liberian border south of Kailahun. The area is primarily agricultural, with rice, cassava, and cocoa cultivation dominating the landscape. It is a quiet rural settlement with traditional Mende culture.

The climate is tropical, with a rainy season from April to September. The dry season from October to March offers the best travel conditions.

The nearest major airport is Lungi International Airport (IATA: FNA), approximately 360 km west.

By Car / Road

Pendembu is accessible by road from Kailahun via a partly unpaved route, about 30–45 minutes south. Road conditions are poor and may be impassable in the rainy season.

The town is small and walkable. Motorcycle taxis (okada) are available for local trips.

Pendembu has no formal accommodation. Visitors should arrange to stay in Kailahun, 30–45 minutes north, or Kenema further afield.

A small weekly market serves the local community with fresh produce and basic goods.
