La Serra
Acquaviva, San Marino
About La Serra
La Serra is a small, scenic curazia (hamlet) located within the castello of Acquaviva in northwestern San Marino. Positioned on the rolling hillsides near the Italian border, it stands in contrast to the nearby industrialized valley of Gualdicciolo. La Serra is characterized by its tranquil rural environment, winding country roads, residential neighborhoods, and terraced agricultural fields and vineyards.
The name "La Serra" refers to its position along the ridgeline, offering panoramic views of the Apennine foothills and the surrounding Sammarinese and Italian countryside. Visitors to La Serra will find a peaceful atmosphere far removed from the busy tourist crowds of the capital, making it a great destination for quiet strolls, landscape photography, and experiencing rural Sammarinese life. The climate is Mediterranean-temperate, with pleasant summers and cool winters.

Ask on WhatsAppHow to reach
By Plane
The closest airport is Federico Fellini International Airport (IATA: RMI) in Rimini, Italy, located about 28 kilometers (17.4 miles) northeast of La Serra. Taxis from the airport to this area cost roughly €50–€60. Alternatively, travelers can take a shuttle or bus from the airport to Rimini train station, and then take the Bonelli Bus to San Marino. For international travelers, Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (IATA: BLQ) is located 130 km (81 miles) away and offers wider connections.
By Train
San Marino does not have an operating railway network. The closest railway station is the Rimini Train Station (Stazione di Rimini) in Italy, which connects to major Italian transport networks. From the station, visitors can take the cross-border Bonelli Bus (Line 72) to Borgo Maggiore or the City of San Marino, and then transfer to a local bus or taxi to reach La Serra.
By Car / Road
La Serra is easiest to reach by private car. From Rimini, follow the SS72 Superstrada into San Marino, turn off at Borgo Maggiore, and follow the local roads through Acquaviva onto Strada La Serra. If driving from the historic Italian town of Verucchio, Strada La Serra crosses the border directly, providing a direct 10-minute route. The local AASS bus network (Line 7) stops in nearby Acquaviva, from where La Serra can be reached by a short taxi ride or a scenic walk.
La Serra is a very small hamlet and is best explored on foot. There are no local public transportation services operating directly within the winding lanes of La Serra itself. To travel to other parts of San Marino, a car is highly recommended. The nearest bus stops are in the center of Acquaviva (about a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute drive). Taxis must be pre-booked from larger hubs like Borgo Maggiore or the City of San Marino, as they do not cruise the area.
