Mocha

Soufrière, Saint Lucia

Why visit Mocha?

Mocha is a small community in the hills above the Soufrière district of Saint Lucia, situated inland from the west coast. The settlement is set among the steep, forested slopes that characterise the island's volcanic interior. With a population of a few hundred, Mocha is a quiet agricultural community where cocoa, banana, and root-crop farming are the primary occupations.

The terrain around Mocha is hilly and heavily vegetated, with a mix of cultivated land and dense tropical forest. The elevation provides cooler temperatures and frequent mist, giving the area an atmospheric, almost mystical quality. The settlement is scattered across the hillside, with wooden houses and small farms connected by footpaths.

Mocha has no tourist facilities. Its appeal is for travellers seeking an authentic experience of Saint Lucia's rural interior, with opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, and nature photography. The village is within reasonable distance of Soufrière town and its attractions.
