La Croix Maingot

La Croix Maingot is a small inland community situated in the hills east of Castries in the Castries district of Saint Lucia. The settlement takes its name from a prominent cross (la croix) that was historically placed at a crossroads in the area. The community is primarily residential and agricultural, with scattered houses and small farms spread across the hilly terrain above the capital.

The area is characterised by its elevated position offering views over the Castries valley and the Caribbean coast below. The landscape consists of mixed agriculture — banana, breadfruit, and citrus trees — interspersed with patches of secondary tropical forest. The community has a small population and limited commercial activity, reflecting its nature as a quiet, rural residential area rather than a tourist destination.

La Croix Maingot has a tropical climate with slightly more rainfall and cooler temperatures than the coastal lowlands due to its elevation. The community is connected to Castries by a network of narrow hillside roads.
