About Pervouralsk
Pervouralsk is an industrial city in Sverdlovsk Oblast, located on the Chusovaya River approximately 80 km northwest of Yekaterinburg. With a population of about 130,000, it is known primarily for its pipe-making industry — the Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant (PNTP) is one of the largest pipe manufacturers in Russia. The city sits at the edge of the Ural Mountains, where the flat plains begin to rise into the rugged mountain terrain.
Founded in 1730 as an ironworks settlement, Pervouralsk has maintained its industrial character through the Soviet era and into the present day. The surrounding landscape features forested hills and river valleys that offer a scenic backdrop to the industrial cityscape. The Chusovaya River, which flows through the city, is a significant waterway connecting the Urals to the Volga basin.
The best time to visit is summer, when the surrounding nature is accessible and the weather is pleasant. Winter brings heavy snow and temperatures well below freezing, which can be harsh for visitors unaccustomed to Ural winters.
