About Sheregesh
Sheregesh is a town in the region of Gornaya Shoriya (Mountain Shoria) in the southern part of Kemerovskaya oblast', and one of Russia's most popular ski resorts. Known locally as "Gesh," it sits at the foot of the Zvezda mountain range in the Altai foothills, with a highest point of 1,270 metres above sea level. The resort area spans four mountains with more than 20 trails and 17 ski lifts of three types: gondolas, rope tows, and chairlifts.
The ski season stretches from November to May, making Sheregesh one of the longest-season resorts in Russia. Trail lengths range from 700 to 3,900 metres, with widths of 50–200 metres and vertical drops of 300–680 metres. The slopes cater to all levels, from beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders. In summer, the area transforms into a destination for hiking, mountain biking, and nature tourism amid pristine taiga forests and mountain meadows.
The climate is mountain-continental, with cold snowy winters ideal for skiing and mild summers with daytime temperatures of 15–20°C. The best time for skiing is December through March; for hiking and outdoor activities, June through September. The town has a population of around 3,000 but swells dramatically during ski season.
