About Birsk

Birsk is a small city in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, with a population of approximately 45,000. Located on the Belaya River about 200 km northwest of Ufa, it was founded in 1689 as a frontier fortress. Birsk is known for its peaceful setting, historic centre, and proximity to the scenic Belaya River valley. The city has a long history as a regional administrative centre and retains several notable historic buildings.

The nearest major airport is Ufa International Airport (UFA), approximately 200 km to the southeast. From Ufa, buses and shared taxis to Birsk take about 3–4 hours.

By Train

Birsk has a small railway station with regional trains connecting to Ufa. The journey from Ufa takes approximately 5–6 hours.

By Car / Road

Birsk is on the highway between Ufa and Kazan, approximately 200 km from Ufa (3–4 hours). Regular bus services connect Birsk with Ufa and neighbouring towns.

The city centre is walkable. Public transport includes buses and minibuses. Taxis are available and affordable. For excursions to the Belaya River valley, a hired car is recommended.
