By Plane
The nearest airport is Henri Coandă International Airport in Bucharest, about 140 km away. From there you can rent a car or take a bus or train to Bușteni.
By Train
Bușteni is situated on the main train line linking Bucharest and Brașov. All types of trains (P, A, R, IC) stop here, making rail the most convenient option.
By Car / Road
Bușteni is on the DN1 national road. The road is in good condition but can get very slippery in winter. Driving from Bucharest takes about 2 hours.
Taxis are an inexpensive way to get around the town (about 5 lei from the train station to a hotel). Buses also run between nearby towns. The town itself is compact and walkable.
Things to do
Most people come to hike in the Bucegi Mountains rather than sightsee in town. A cable car from Bușteni takes you to the top plateau of Bucegi where you can see the Babele and Sphinx rock formations carved by the wind. The Heroes' Monument, a huge cross atop Caraiman Peak honouring the fallen of World War I, is about a 45-minute hike from the cable car's upper station. Be prepared for queues of up to 3 hours per direction for the cable car in peak season.
Hiking in the beautiful Bucegi National Park with many picturesque marked trails. Maps can be bought in Bușteni, Sinaia, Predeal or from mountain shops in Bucharest. The Coștila climbing area nearby is one of the biggest in Romania, a paradise for multi-pitch conglomerate climbing with walls ranging from 100 m to over 300 m. In winter the Kalinderu ski slope offers winter sports, and equipment rental is available at fair prices. ATV rentals are also available.
