Navodari
Constanța, Romania
Why visit Navodari?
Năvodari is a town in Constanța County on the Black Sea coast, with about 34,400 inhabitants. Its name means "trawlers" in Romanian. The settlement was first mentioned in 1421 as Kara Koyun ("Black Sheep" in Turkish). It developed rapidly under the communist regime after a superphosphate and sulphuric acid plant opened in 1957. Today it is an important industrial centre, home to the Petromidia Refinery, Romania's largest oil refinery, and one of the largest in Eastern Europe. Năvodari also has a summer camp and access to Black Sea beaches.
