About Techirghiol

Techirghiol is a spa town on the northwest shore of Lake Techirghiol in Constanța County, 18 km south of Constanța and 3 km from the Black Sea. The name comes from Turkish Tekirgöl ("Striped Lake") — according to legend, a blind old man named Tekir was miraculously healed after his donkey pulled him into the lake's mud. The sapropelic mud from Lake Techirghiol won a gold medal at the 1924 Universal Exposition in Paris and is used for wraps, baths, and massage at the Techirghiol Balneotherapy Center. The town has been a popular spa destination since the 1920s and today remains a sought-after resort for therapeutic treatments.
