About Harsova

Hârșova is a town on the right bank of the Danube in Constanța County, with a population of about 8,700. In ancient times, the Roman fort of Carsium stood here as part of the Moesian Limes defensive system along the Danube. The modern name may derive from the Slavic god Hârs (Хърс) or from the Slavic word for cliff. The town includes the village of Vadu Oii, linked to Giurgeni across the Danube by the Giurgeni-Vadu Oii Bridge. Hârșova was an important Ottoman fortress and was stormed by Russian forces in 1773, 1809, and 1828.
