2 Mai

Constanța, Romania

About 2 Mai

2 Mai is a small fishing village on the Black Sea coast, situated between Vama Veche (3 km south) and Mangalia (9 km north). The village takes its name from May 2nd, the date of a significant historical event in the Romanian War of Independence (1877). It has a quiet, relaxed atmosphere quite different from the party scene of neighbouring Vama Veche — 2 Mai is more of a family-friendly, low-key alternative.

The village sits on a gently sloping beach with fine sand and calm waters. The surrounding landscape is flat and agricultural, with vineyards and sunflower fields stretching inland. The climate follows the standard Black Sea pattern — warm summers (25–30°C, June–September) and cool winters. The village is small enough to explore entirely on foot in under an hour.

2 Mai attracts visitors who want the proximity to Vama Veche's energy without the noise and chaos. It is also popular with families and older travellers seeking a peaceful beach holiday. The village has a handful of guesthouses, restaurants, and beach bars, and retains much of its traditional fishing-village character.
