About Moldova Noua
Moldova Nouă is a small riverside town on the Danube in southeastern Caraș-Severin County, close to the border with Serbia. The town sits at the point where the Nera River meets the Danube, near the dramatic Đerdap (Iron Gates) gorge. Historically, Moldova Nouă developed around copper mining and timber extraction, exploiting the mineral-rich mountains and dense forests of the surrounding region. The town retains a working-class, riverside character, with a modest centre and a waterfront that offers views across the Danube to Serbia.
The landscape is defined by the Danube and the steep, forested hills of the Nera Valley. The climate is continental, with warm summers and mild-to-cold winters. Moldova Nouă is not a major tourist destination, but its location near the Đerdap Gorge and Cheile Nerei–Beușnița National Park makes it a potential base for exploring the eastern edge of Caraș-Severin. The town is roughly 120 km east of Reșița and 60 km from Oravița, connected by winding mountain roads.
