Lisboa (PT-11) is a District covering the Greater Lisbon area and surrounding Estremadura coastline. It is Portugal's most populous district and its economic, cultural, and political heart, centered on the capital city of Lisbon. The district stretches from the Tagus River estuary along the Atlantic coast, encompassing the UNESCO World Heritage town of Sintra, the coastal resorts of Cascais and Estoril, and historic towns like Mafra and Torres Vedras.
When to Visit
The best time to visit Lisboa is during spring (March–May) and autumn (September–October), when temperatures are pleasant and tourist crowds are smaller. Summer (June–August) is peak season with warm weather ideal for coastal areas, but popular destinations can be crowded and accommodation prices higher. Winter (November–February) is mild along the coast but cooler and rainier inland, with fewer tourists and lower prices. Check local festival calendars for unique cultural experiences throughout the year.

WhatsAppGetting Around
The best way to explore Lisboa is by car, which provides flexibility to reach smaller towns and rural attractions. Regional bus services connect the main towns, and train services (Comboios de Portugal) serve major routes. In coastal areas, local buses and taxis are available. Cycling is a great option for exploring flat areas and dedicated bike routes. Ride-hailing services (Uber, Bolt) operate in larger urban centers.
