Agoo

Agoo is a first-class municipality in La Union, 15 minutes south of San Fernando. Known as the "Palm Tree Capital of the Philippines," Agoo is notable for its 3-km stretch of royal palm trees lining the MacArthur Highway, planted during the American colonial period. The town has a bay with a long beach and the historic Agoo Church.

Agoo is on the MacArthur Highway, served by buses from Manila (5 hours) and San Fernando (15 min).

• Visit the Agoo Watchtower — A 19th-century Spanish watchtower (baluarte) used to spot pirates.

• Walking tour of the palm-tree avenue — Best at sunrise or sunset for photographs.

• Resty's Sa baybay — A beachfront restaurant serving Filipino dishes. Seafood and grilled meats. Meals ₱200–400.

Fresh buko juice from beach vendors. Soft drinks and beer at local sari-sari stores. Tap water not recommended for drinking.

• Mid-range: Agoo Beach Resort (rooms from ₱2,000).
