Afore

Northern, Papua New Guinea

Why visit Afore?

Afore is a remote station in Northern (Oro) Province, located on the coast roughly 60 km east of Popondetta at the edge of the Solomon Sea. It is the administrative centre for the Afore District and serves the local Orokaiva and Yareba-speaking communities. The area is a mix of coastal plain and forested foothills, with the main economic activities being cocoa, copra, and subsistence fishing.

Afore is very off the tourist track. There is no accommodation for visitors, no restaurants, and minimal services. It is included here for completeness and for the few overland travellers completing the Kokoda Track and continuing to the coast.
