Bir Nabala

Bir Nabala is a Palestinian village in the Jerusalem Governorate, located 7 km north of Jerusalem's Old City, just west of the Ramallah Road (Route 60). It has a population of about 8,000, predominantly Muslim, and is known for its historic spring (Bir), its old stone-built quarter, and a lively vegetable market. Bir Nabala's location on a hill makes the Jerusalem and Ramallah skylines visible from its edges. The climate is Mediterranean: hot, dry summers and cool, rainy winters. Spring is the best time to visit. The village centre is compact and walkable.

Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) is 50 km northwest. A taxi costs ₪300–400. Budget: sherut to Jerusalem's Damascus Gate (₪45), then shared taxi to Bir Nabala (₪5, 10 min).

Bir Nabala is 7 km north of Jerusalem, about 15 minutes by car via the Ramallah Road (Route 60). Shared taxis from Jerusalem's Damascus Gate and the Central Bus Station run to Bir Nabala frequently (₪5).

The old quarter and market area are walkable. Shared taxis connect Bir Nabala to Jerusalem, Ramallah, and surrounding villages.

• Bir Nabala Spring (Bir) — The historic spring that gave the village its name, located at the base of the hill.

• Bir Nabala Old Quarter — A traditional stone-built neighbourhood with narrow alleys and arched houses.

• Bir Nabala Mosque — The main mosque, a modern building.

• Vegetable market — A lively daily market selling fresh produce from surrounding farms.

• View of Ramallah — The northern edge offers a view of the Ramallah skyline.

• Explore the old quarter — Walk through the narrow stone alleyways.

• Visit the spring — The Bir spring area is a pleasant shaded spot.

• Shop at the vegetable market — The market is busiest in the morning.

• Walk to Ar-Ram — A 30-minute walk south along the ridge.

• Bir Nabala Restaurant — A local restaurant serving grilled chicken, mansaf, and meze. Mains ₪25–50.
• Bir Nabala Sweets — A bakery selling knafeh and baklava. Small plates ₪5–12.
• Falafel stands — Street food available near the market.

Bir Nabala has no tourist accommodation. The nearest hotels are in Ramallah (10 min north) or East Jerusalem (15 min south).

Fresh produce at the vegetable market is excellent and cheap. Olive oil is available from local farmers (₪35–50/litre). For other goods, Ar-Ram (15 min south) has a wider selection.
