Tambuwal is a town in Sokoto State, headquarters of Tambuwal Local Government Area, on the A1 highway. The LGA covers about 1,717 km² and had a population of roughly 225,000 at the 2006 census, with other communities in the area including Dagon Daji, Jabo, Sanyinna, and Gindi. The town was founded by Muhammad Bukhari, a poet and son of Usman dan Fodio, who became its first emir; its subsequent traditional rulers descend from him. Tambuwal LGA is known locally for rice farming.
