Kogi State is a state in central Nigeria, at the confluence of the Niger and Benue rivers — one of the most significant geographical features in West Africa. Its capital, Lokoja, sits at this confluence and was the first administrative capital of the British Niger Coast Protectorate. The state is ethnically diverse, with the Igala, Ebira, and Okun (Yoruba) peoples as the main groups.
The state is rich in mineral resources, with the Ajaokuta Steel Mill — one of Africa's largest steel plants — being a major landmark. The confluence at Lokoja is a spectacular sight, and the Mount Patti hill offers panoramic views.
The dry season (November–March) is the best time to visit.
