Why visit Ikom?

Ikom is a town in Cross River State, located on the banks of the Cross River near the border with Cameroon. It is famous for the Ikom Monoliths (Akwanshi), a collection of hundreds of volcanic-stone monoliths carved with geometric and humanoid faces, believed to be over 2,000 years old and designated a UNESCO tentative World Heritage site. Ikom is also a gateway to the Cross River National Park and Obudu Mountain Resort. The town is a melting pot of Ejagham and other Cross River ethnic groups.

How do you get there?

By Plane

The nearest major airport is Margaret Ekpo International Airport (CBQ) in Calabar, about 110 km south. Domestic flights connect Calabar to Lagos and Abuja.

By Car / Road

Ikom is on the Calabar–Obudu highway. Buses run from Calabar (2.5 hr) and Obudu (1.5 hr). The road is generally good but winding through forested hills.

Okada and taxis are the main transport.
