Dolores

About Dolores

Dolores is a small town in the interior of the Carazo Department in southern Nicaragua, located approximately 20 km south of Jinotepe. With a population of roughly 6,000, Dolores is a quiet agricultural community surrounded by farmland, pasture, and patches of dry tropical forest. The town serves as a local centre for the surrounding rural communities.

The town has a modest colonial-era centre with a main plaza, a Catholic church, and a handful of shops and comedores. The economy is based on agriculture — corn, beans, sorghum, and cattle ranching. Dolores is not a tourist destination, but offers a glimpse of authentic rural Nicaraguan life.

The climate is warm and dry, with temperatures averaging 25–32°C. The rainy season (May–October) brings occasional flooding in low-lying areas.
