About Kirtipur
Kirtipur is a historic Newari hill town on a ridge south-west of Kathmandu, offering a quieter, more traditional alternative to the capital's bustle. It was famously conquered by Prithvi Narayan Shah in 1767 after a long and bloody siege during the unification of Nepal. The town is known for its preserved medieval character, traditional Newari houses, and panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayas.
The climate is mild year-round. The best times to visit are October–November and March–April. The town is compact and walkable, built around a ridge-top bazaar.
