Why visit Tsandi?
Tsandi is the traditional capital of the Uukwaluudhi kingdom, one of the historic Ovambo polities of the Omusati Region, about 30 km south of Outapi. The Uukwaluudhi Royal Homestead lies just past the settlement toward Okahao: a modern brick residence built in 1978 houses the reigning king and queen, while the original traditional homestead beside it — thatched huts and reception areas arranged around a central fire — is open to guided visits of about 90 minutes. The current king, Josia Shikongo Taapopi, is the twelfth in the Uukwaluudhi line, appointed by his uncle King Mwaala, who reigned for 50 years.
