Spitzkoppe

Spitzkoppe is a group of spectacular granite peaks rising from the Namib Desert, often called the "Matterhorn of Namibia." The main peak reaches 1,728 m, approximately 700 m above the surrounding plains. The area is known for its stunning rock formations, San rock art, and world-class rock climbing routes. The peaks are particularly photogenic at sunrise and sunset when the granite glows orange and red.

Spitzkoppe is 150 km east of Swakopmund, accessible via the B2 highway and then gravel roads. A sedan can reach the main parking area, but a 4x4 is recommended for exploring the wider area.

The area is explored on foot and by 4x4 vehicle. Walking trails lead to the main summits, rock art sites, and viewpoints.
