Gondola

Gondola is a small market town in Manica Province, situated on the N6 highway and the Beira–Harare railway line, roughly halfway between Chimoio and the Zimbabwe border. Known locally for the Cachoeira de Amizade (Friendship Waterfall), a popular swimming spot in the hot season, the town serves as a local agricultural trading centre and a transport stop for travellers crossing central Mozambique. Its surroundings feature scattered farms, smallholdings, and the characteristic miombo woodlands of the Manica lowlands.

The nearest airport is Chimoio Airport, about 25 km to the west.

By Train

Gondola is on the Beira–Harare railway line but passenger services are very limited.

By Car / Road

Gondola is on the N6 highway, about 10 km east of Chimoio. Chapas from Chimoio's main terminal serve Gondola frequently (30 MZN, 20 min).

Gondola is small and walkable. Moto-taxis connect to outlying areas and the waterfall.

• Cachoeira de Amizade — A popular waterfall and swimming hole in the Gondola district, easily reached by chapa from Chimoio.

• Swim at Cachoeira de Amizade — Cool off at the waterfall, especially refreshing in the hot season.

• Explore the local market — A small market sells fresh produce and household goods.

Simple eateries along the N6 serve frango grelhado, xima, and snacks.

Small bars serve local beer and soft drinks.

• Budget: Pensão Gondola — Basic rooms available. Enquire locally.

Basic provisions are available at small shops in town.

• Chimoio (10 km west, 20 min) — Provincial capital with excellent markets, restaurants, and accommodation.
• Manica (25 km east) — Historic border town near the Machipanda crossing to Zimbabwe.
