About Mataguzi

Mataguzi (locally spelled Mataguži) is a quiet, agricultural village situated in the fertile Zeta Plain in the central region of Montenegro. Historically part of the Podgorica municipality, it became part of the newly established Zeta Municipality in 2022. The village has deep medieval roots, taking its name from the Mataguzi tribe, with historical records of the "Katun Mataguži" dating back to 1330. It was also noted in 15th-century Venetian documents as a significant highland settlement.

Today, Mataguzi is a peaceful rural settlement characterized by family-run farms, orchards, and vineyards. The climate is Mediterranean-continental, featuring hot, dry summers where temperatures frequently exceed 35°C, and mild, wet winters. Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are the best times to visit for comfortable weather and lush green scenery.
