About Prcanj

Prčanj (traditionally spelled Prčanj or Prcanj) is a historic, peaceful coastal hamlet situated on the western shore of the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro, just 4 kilometers north of the town of Kotor. Nestled at the foot of the Vrmac ridge and directly facing the waters of the inner bay, this small settlement has a storied maritime history. During the Venetian rule, Prčanj was a prosperous town of wealthy shipowners, captains, and sailors. Its mariners were granted special privileges by the Venetian Republic, including the right to carry mail, due to their speed and reliability.

Today, Prčanj retains its charming, old-world character, characterized by stone palaces built by wealthy sea captains, narrow streets (called kale), and historic churches. It offers a quieter, more relaxed alternative to the busy tourist hub of Kotor, making it a popular getaway for travelers looking for peaceful waterfront settings, stone piers (ponta), and excellent views of the bay. The local microclimate, influenced by the surrounding high mountains and sea breezes, is historically renowned for its therapeutic properties, particularly for respiratory ailments.

The best time to visit Prčanj is during the late spring and summer months (May to September), when the weather is warm and sunny, ideal for swimming and outdoor activities. July and August are the peak tourist months, meaning the narrow coastal road can become congested and popular restaurants get busy. Late spring (May and June) and early autumn (September) offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and a more serene atmosphere.
