Anderamboukane

Ménaka, Mali

Why visit Anderamboukane?

Anderamboukane is a town in the far east of Mali, near the border with Niger, about 94 km southeast of Ménaka at a bend in the Assakaraye valley (a seasonal watercourse that widens into a lake during the rainy season). It was historically a commune of Ménaka Cercle and was upgraded to its own cercle when Ménaka Region was created in 2016. The town was known for its scenic setting and periodically hosted the Tamadacht cultural festival.

Anderamboukane is not currently safe to visit. Armed conflict has severely affected the town in recent years, and it has been under the control of an Islamic State affiliate since 2022, with humanitarian access cut off. Check official government travel advisories before any travel to this area — this guide describes the town for reference only, not as a current destination.
