Sri Aman

Sri Aman is a peaceful town on the Batang Lupar River in western Sarawak, the gateway to Batang Ai National Park and the Batang Ai Dam. The town has a sleepy riverside character and is known for the tidal bore (benak) on the Batang Lupar River, which can reach up to 3 metres during spring tides. It is the starting point for visiting Iban longhouses in the surrounding hills.

No train service in Sarawak.

By Car / Road

Sri Aman is 200 km north-east of Kuching on the Pan Borneo Highway. The drive takes 2.5 hours.

A car is essential. The town is small and walkable. Local taxis can be hired for trips to Batang Ai.

Fort Alice (a Brooke-era fort), Batang Ai Dam (scenic views), the Sri Aman market, and the benak (tidal bore) on the Batang Lupar River during spring tides. Iban longhouses near Batang Ai offer cultural immersion.

Batang Ai longhouse homestay, visit Fort Alice, watch the tidal bore (check tide tables), and explore the Sri Aman market. Boat trips on the Batang Lupar River are available.

Local food stalls serving kolo mee, nasi goreng, and seafood; RM 3–7. Longhouse homestays include traditional Iban meals.
