Why visit Taiping?
Taiping is a historic town in Perak, about 70 km northwest of Ipoh and 70 km south of Penang. It is known as the "Town of Everlasting Peace" and was the capital of Perak during the British colonial period (1876–1937). Taiping is famous for its rain (the wettest town in Peninsular Malaysia), its beautiful Lake Gardens, the first railway station in Malaysia, and its well-preserved colonial architecture. The town sits at the foot of Maxwell Hill (Bukit Larut), a hill resort with cool mountain air.
