Why visit Seri Menanti?
Seri Menanti is the royal town of Negeri Sembilan, in Kuala Pilah District about 30 km east of Seremban, and the traditional seat of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. Its landmark, the Istana Lama Seri Menanti, is regarded as the largest timber palace in Malaysia; it took six years to build and was completed in 1908, and was converted into a Royal Museum in 1992. Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong of independent Malaya, was born in Seri Menanti in 1895 and was installed as Yang di-Pertuan Besar at the Istana Lama in 1934.
