Kuah
Kedah, Malaysia
Why visit Kuah?
Kuah is the main town and administrative centre of the Langkawi archipelago, located on the southeastern coast of the main island. It is the primary arrival point for ferries from the mainland and the heart of Langkawi's duty-free shopping district. The name "Kuah" means "gravy" in Malay, which according to legend relates to a story of a giant bowl of gravy being spilled where a lake now sits.
Kuah is predominantly commercial — rather than being a beach destination itself, it serves as the shopping, dining, and transport hub of Langkawi. The town centre is compact, centred on the main square, duty-free malls, and the waterfront. The iconic 12 m tall eagle statue at Eagle Square is the symbol of both Kuah and Langkawi.
