About Segamat
Segamat is a town in the northernmost corner of Johor, located about 180 km northwest of Johor Bahru and 90 km east of Malacca. The name is thought to derive from the Malay phrase "segamat" meaning "solid" or "united". It is one of the oldest settlements in Johor and has historically been an important railway junction on the KTM West Coast Line where the branch line to Tumpat diverges.
Segamat serves as a regional hub for the surrounding agricultural areas (palm oil, rubber, and durian orchards). The town has a diverse population of Malays, Chinese, and Indians, reflected in its food and architecture. Key landmarks include the Segamat railway station, the colonial-era town square, and the nearby waterfalls and hot springs in the surrounding hills.
