Why visit Bangula?

Bangula is a town of around 5,000 people in Nsanje District, in the Lower Shire Valley of southern Malawi, sitting on the western bank of the Shire River near its confluence with the Ruo River, at an elevation of about 100 m. The name is said to translate roughly as "place where the lions roar," though the animals themselves are no longer found in the area. The main highway between Nsanje and Blantyre runs through the town, and Bangula anchors the northern end of an urbanized corridor running south through Nsanje town to Marka.
