Overview

Wādī ash Shāţi' is a popularate in southwestern Libya, in the Fezzan region. It covers the Wadi ash-Shati, a broad valley that runs east–west across the Sahara, containing a chain of oases including Brak (the district capital), Idri, Ashkidah, Qira, Tarut, and Mahruqah. The wadi is a depression that once held a lake and now supports agriculture through groundwater irrigation. The landscape is stark desert, with oases of date palms providing the only green relief. The population is a mix of Arab and Berber communities.
