About Al Aziziyah

Al Aziziyah is a town in the Al Jafārah district, about 40 km south of Tripoli on the Jifarah Plain. It is best known for having recorded the highest temperature ever measured on Earth — 58°C (136°F) on 13 September 1922 — a record that stood for 90 years before being invalidated by the World Meteorological Organization in 2012 due to questionable instruments and observer error. Nonetheless, the area remains one of the hottest places on the planet. The town has a traditional souk and serves as a local agricultural centre. The climate is extreme: summers are scorching and winters mild.
