Why visit Chmestar?

Chmestar (also spelled Shmustar or Shmistar) is a town in Baalbek-Hermel Governorate, on the eastern slope of Mount Sannine overlooking the Beqaa Valley at about 1,250 m elevation, roughly between Baalbek (about 21 km away) and Zahle. It had a population of around 30,000 as of a 2012 census, predominantly Shia Muslim. Like much of the surrounding Beqaa Valley, it is an agricultural area.

By Plane

Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY IATA) is approximately 90 km west, about a 1.5-hour drive.

By Car / Road

From Beirut, drive east through the Beqaa Valley; Chmestar lies between Baalbek (about 21 km away) and Zahle.

The town is walkable. Local taxis are available for trips to Baalbek.
