About Slitere National Park
Slitere National Park is a park in Talsu municipality, western Latvia, with a windswept Baltic coastline, blue clay cliffs, and traditional fishing villages. Its location on the Baltic coast makes it a popular seaside destination. With a population of around several hundred residents, Slitere National Park offers visitors an authentic glimpse into Latvian provincial life, where traditional wooden architecture blends with Soviet-era buildings and modern renovation. The town is particularly noted for Slītere NP, blue clay cliffs. As part of the Kurzeme region, Slitere National Park reflects the historic Duchy of Courland heritage — Lutheran churches, German-influenced manor architecture, and a strong maritime tradition along the Baltic coast. The nearby seashore offers opportunities for beachcombing and birdwatching, while inland forests are excellent for mushrooming and berry-picking. The climate is humid continental (Köppen Dfb), with warm summers (June–August averaging 16–18°C) and cold, snowy winters (December–February averaging −3 to −7°C). The best time to visit is May through September for outdoor activities and festivals, though winter offers cross-country skiing and sauna experiences. Rainfall is moderate year-round, with the wettest months being July and August.
