About Long Cheng

Long Cheng (also known as Long Tieng) is a historic valley in Xaisômboun Province, famous as the secret Hmong CIA stronghold during the Laotian Civil War. It was a major base of operations during the conflict and continues to have historical significance. The area is mountainous and home to Hmong communities.

Access is limited and a permit is required. The area remains sensitive.

The climate is subtropical. November to February is the best time to visit.

By Plane

Nearest airport is Wattay International (VTE), about 160 km southwest.

By Train

By Car / Road

Long Cheng is accessible from Vang Vieng or Vientiane. A permit from Vientiane is required. The road is partially paved. A 4WD vehicle is recommended.
