Saysathan is a district in southern Xaignabouli Province, located in a rural valley surrounded by hills. The area is agricultural with rice farming and livestock. The district capital is a small settlement serving local farming communities.

The climate is tropical monsoon. November to February is the best travel period. The town is basic with limited services.
